Start Using Client Security and Filter Who Sees What | DeskDirector

Published on: | Updated on:

Client security is one of our more quiet changes to the Admin Console. If you are already aware of the feature, great! If not, you should!

Client Security is the feature you should be using to further customise your clients DD experience.

Available in version 16+ of the Admin Console, it will allow you to deliver a more filtered and customisable experience to your clients, as well as reducing the ammount of management you have to do.

What is Client Security?

For Autotask User:

- Client security allows you to edit the Global Settings of what Ticket Queue your clients see in their DeskDirector Portal.

- You can now set global settings that will affect all your clients, or set company specific settings, which override the global settings. Not enough? you can also set contact specific settings, so you can really lock down on the security of your portal. These contact specific settings will override any company settings, which in turn override global settings.

- Too many settings to remember? Fear not! We provide a nice summary next to each filter instance that tells you which settings are currently being used.

For ConnectWise Users:

- Client security allows you to edit the Global Settings of what Ticket Board, Opportunity Status and Type, and Invoice Status your clients see in their DeskDirector Portal.

- You no longer need to configure these settings in Connectwise, it simplifies the process and makes it easy to change and customise.

Why is Client Security so important?

- Eases the support process. Less things to check in your PSA means more things we can check on our end. This means that there will be less of back and forth debugging and faster support as we have access to the problem.

- Improves security, as you can now give the right amount of access to the right people.

Connectwise improvements:

- Removes complexity of setting up these filters in Connectwise, and provides one place to manage all of them.

- Isolates our product from some ConnectWise API dependencies, which in turn allow us to keep better management of the behaviour and usage of this feature as we manage it.

How do I get Client Security?

Check your Admin Console version (top left of the admin console).

Is your admin console on version 16? If so, then congratulations! You already have client security available to you.

Not on version 16? No need to fret, just drop us a line at support@deskdirector.com telling us you want to be upgraded to the latest version. We should be able to do this pretty soon after receiving your request (as long as is in our business hours), and your server should only go down for under a minute for the upgrade. However, sometimes we get up to 10 minutes of down time, so be aware.

Important notice: Before requesting an update please check your Dashboard tab. Under the Legacy Clients tab, check how many clients are on version 14.1 or under. If you have any, then you will lose support for these clients when we upgrade your server. You will have to upgrade them to a newer version of the DeskDirector client. The good news is, we expect to make a big annoucement in the next week in regards to our latest client. So it might be worth waiting before upgrading your clients and server version.
